Photographer Comment: Some of the kids on my block get together and put on dances, skits and fashion shows for all the cul-du-sac during the afternoons. They saw my strobes and backdrop set up this last weekend in the garage when I was doing some practice portrait work. So I was asked if I could do a "fashion shoot" for them. So with the moms looking on and with the boombox cranking out pop tunes, we did a "fashion shoot" :) I'm not sure who had more fun but the girls were completely stoked at having umbrellas and strobes popping off in their faces. The moms were blown away with how the pictures were turning out in my crowded and somewhat messy garage. I used a white piece of polarplus as my backdrop. I used two SB800s and the nikon CLS system. My D80 was the commander and the internal flash set to 0. I used two umbrellas as reflected light. One was 1/4 power and the other was set to 1/16. F stop was 5.6 and shutter was 1/120. Post was done in Lightroom 1.4 with some touchup in Photoshop to clean up the eyes and some minor blemish control. Printing was in Lightroom. Each girl got a print of this image and you thought I had handed them gold. It was great to watch the parents look at the print and look at their child running around and back at the print. More so since they saw I shot the images. The girls got an extra one to "sign" as their own group just like the stars do and give it to a special person. It was a real joy to watch the reaction of all involved. Nikon D80 SB800 18-55mm VR handheld .
